Chattanooga area residents have reported receiving phone calls from people pretending to represent the "cancer council" and asking for donations to the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center, according to a Friday news release from CHI Memorial Hospital.

The CHI Memorial Foundation and the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center do not make solicitation telephone calls and are not affiliated with this group, the news release stated.

"Many people throughout the Tennessee Valley have a personal connection with the Mary Ellen Locher Breast Center. We don't want anyone who knows about the great work done here to be misled by organizations claiming to raise funds for us," says Jennifer Nicely, president, CHI Memorial Foundation.

If you receive a phone call soliciting funds for the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center, please contact the Better Business Bureau serving Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia at 423-266-6144.

To make a donation or to get more information about the CHI Memorial Foundation, call 423-495-4438 or send an email to foundation@memorial.org.
