A man shot and killed in the front yard of his Ooltewah home on Tuesday was apparently targeted, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Patrick Godwin, 57, had just gotten home from work Tuesday and was standing in his yard in the 8500 block of Horseshoe Bend Lane when he was shot and killed, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are still working to identify the shooter, but sheriff's office spokesman Matt Lea told the Times Free Press that information they have obtained indicates the incident was not a random act of violence.

Lea added that investigators are following up on leads and conducting interviews.

Godwin, a father of three, worked as a hairdresser for decades, most recently at Tease Hair Salon. He would have turned 58 on Jan. 9.

Community members have been mourning his loss in the days since his death.

In a statement Monday, the Kidney Foundation of Greater Chattanooga expressed their sympathies to Godwin's family.

"Patrick was a genuine soul who volunteered to style hair at many early years of Dare to Dance," says a post on Facebook. "He helped calm many nerves before photo shoots and the big event. We are so sorry to learn of his passing."

The investigation is ongoing.
