Elderly man dies after apartment fire on Sunflower Lane

A man who was rescued from a burning apartment building on Sunflower Lane died from injuries he sustained in the fire, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Eighty-three year old Hugh Lingerfelt died Tuesday, July 7, at 1:55 p.m. at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Several apartment units at the Rustic Village North Apartments are significantly damaged from a fire that happened on June 30.

Chattanooga firefighters rescued six people who were taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for injuries.

Several community members aided in rescuing Lingerfel from his burning apartment unit, which was the original source of the fire, the release states.

Fire officials are continuing to investigate the incident.
