One Tullahoma, Tennessee, man is dead and another is behind bars on a $1 million bond following a shooting Saturday at a local apartment complex.

Authorities arrested 61-year-old Norman Paul Adams Jr., in the shooting on a homicide charge and he's being held in the Coffee County Jail in neighboring Manchester awaiting a court appearance on Thursday, according to Coffee County Chief Deputy Frank Watkins.

Tullahoma police on Saturday were called to Ada Ferrell Garden Apartments complex on Freeman Street following multiple 911 calls about "some people shooting guns" at the apartments a little after 8 p.m. CDT, Tullahoma police spokeswoman Winston Brooks said Monday.

"Upon arriving, officers immediately identified a victim in the parking lot who had been shot and immediately began rendering aid," Brooks said. The victim was identified as 28-year-old Tullahoma resident Alexander North, Brooks said. North was taken to a hospital where he later died.

An allegedly armed Adams was spotted by officers near the shooting scene and detained, police said.

Brooks said Monday that a female resident at the apartments received minor injuries during the initial incident when some shots were fired into the ground and she was struck by flying debris. However, Brooks said her injuries were not directly related to the fatal shots.

The woman was among several people who called 911 to report the shots being fired, police said.

Officers' initial observations of Adams being armed nearby and witness statements from people on the scene led police to detain Adams in the shooting. Brooks said that as police investigated, medical officials notified authorities that the victim had died and Adams was charged with first-degree murder.

The investigation is ongoing, according to officials. The Coffee County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation.
