Two coronavirus-related deaths reported in Pickens, Cherokee County, Georgia

Two of the confirmed 64 coronavirus-related deaths in Georgia were residents of Cherokee County and Pickens County.

In a statement from spokeswoman Jennifer King with the North Georgia Health District, two women died this week who previously had tested positive for COVID-19.

The Cherokee County resident was a woman in her 60s and the Pickens County resident was a woman in her 70s. Both women had underlying health conditions can were were hospitalized when they died.

These are the first deaths reported in the North Georgia Health District. The district covers Cherokee, Fannin, Gilmer, Murray, Pickens and Whitfield counties.

As of Friday at noon, there are 2,001 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Georgia and 64 deaths. More than 560 people are currently hospitalized for the virus and 57% of people who have tested positive are between 18 and 59 years old while 34% are over 60.
