Hamilton County deputy charged with driving under the influence following off-duty crash

A Hamilton County sheriff's deputy has been arrested and placed on paid administrative leave after being charged with driving under the influence following a solo vehicle crash, according to a news release.

Nicholas Monroe, a deputy of five years who works with the county's patrol division, crashed while off duty on Interstate 75 near the interchange with Interstate 24. He was arrested on the scene by the Chattanooga Police Department.

In addition to the alleged DUI, Monroe was also charged with a lane violation, failing to exercise due care and refusing to submit to a breath or blood test.

The release states the Monroe is on paid administrative leave until an internal affairs investigation is completed.
