Collegedale Police donates bicycles to help Kentucky tornado victims and the Forgotten Child Fund

The Collegedale Police Department on Friday donated a collection of bicycles to families affected by the recent tornado that ravaged Mayfield, Kentucky, and to the Forgotten Child Fund Toy Drive at the Collegedale Walmart, according to an emailed news release.

The department's bicycle and pedestrian safety program manager, Kat Volzer, known in Collegedale as "Kat the bike lady," worked to make the donations happen.

"We are glad to have Kat on our Collegedale team," said Collegedale Police Chief Jack Sapp in the release. "Her commitment to bike and pedestrian safety has been a very positive addition to the services our agency provides."

Volzer was hired as the city's Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety manager in 2018. The position was funded by a grant through the Tennessee Highway Safety Office.

The city of Collegedale, in partnership with the Collegedale Tomorrow Foundation, will accept donations to help those affected by the tornado in Mayfield, Kentucky, until Dec. 22 at the Collegedale City Hall.
