The Chattanooga Fire Department announced a suspect is in custody following a series of fires believed to have been intentionally set early Tuesday morning in the downtown Chattanooga area, according to a news release.
According to the department, Brandon England, 23, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated arson.
Crews responded to "11 dumpster and trash fires from Main Street to Cowart Street," the release stated. The events led to the evacuation of two nearby apartment buildings. Both buildings were ventilated to remove the smoke, and residents were then able to return to their homes with no injuries reported.
Investigators believe the fires were set at the same time, around midnight.
The fire department, with assistance from the Chattanooga Police Department, is continuing to investigate the incident.
