A woman has been detained in connection with the death of a Signal Mountain man who was found dead in a home on the 3600 block of Scarlet Maple Court early Wednesday morning, according to a news release.

Signal Mountain Police Department officers responded to the home after receiving a call regarding a possible drug overdose around 3:08 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found Randall Paul Otto, 69, with knife wounds to the torso, said the release issued Wednesday morning by Signal Mountain Police Chief Mike Williams.

Officers then called investigators at the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and detained Rhonda Lorna Essenpreis, 63, who was at the home. Hamilton County EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene and transported the woman to Erlanger hospital, where officers were waiting to speak to her, the release said.

"We don't feel like there is anyone else involved - no more suspects," Williams said in a telephone interview.

Signal Mountain Detective Randy Poland and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Unit are working together on the case.

"As usual, Deputy Chief Austin Garrett of the sheriff's department has offered, and is providing unlimited assistance from their agency to ensure a successful conclusion to this major investigation," Williams said in an email.
