Authorities are searching for a man suspected of stealing property from a local cemetery, according to a news release from the Bradley County Sheriff's Office.

Bradley County Sheriff's Office property crime detectives have issued warrants for the arrest of Christopher Elkins, 38, on the following charges: four counts of desecration of a venerated object and one count of theft over $1,000.

The BCSO Criminal Investigations Division received a report Thursday from a resident who said he came across four bronze vases that appeared to be from a cemetery.

An investigation led detectives to a local cemetery where four gravestones were missing vases that appeared to have been forcibly removed. Cemetery staff also reported that an air conditioning unit had been stolen from a mausoleum.

Elkins was identified as the suspect during the investigation.
