Chattanooga police investigating Wednesday night homicide on Shady Vail Lane

Authorities are investigating the Wednesday night shooting death of a 29-year-old man on Shady Vail Lane, one of several homicides to occur in the area this week.

According to a news release, shortly before 8 p.m., officers arrived at the 7300 block of Shady Vail Lane to find Frederick Williams shot, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators learned that Williams was inside a residence at the location when someone shot him.

The Chattanooga Police Department has active warrants for a man they suspect was involved, James Michael Farris, 27, who is considered armed and dangerous. Farris is a white male who is 6 feet tall and weighs 170 pounds, according to police. Farris is believed to be in a heavily wooded area near the 1000 block of Sequoyah Access Road in Soddy-Daisy.

Additional HCSO personnel will be at these schools as a precaution on Friday:

- Soddy Daisy High School

- Soddy Daisy Middle School

- Soddy Daisy Elementary

- John Allen Elementary

- Sequoyah High School

Chattanooga police asked anyone with information about the incident to call 423-643-5100 or submit a tip through the Chattanooga Police Department's mobile app.
