Employee at Chattanooga VA clinic injured after flash fire in X-ray room

A worker at the Chattanooga VA Clinic was injured on Wednesday after a flash fire occurred inside of an X-ray room at the clinic, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

At 1:11 p.m., Chattanooga fire crews responded to the 6400 block of Shallowford Road for a report of a commercial fire.

When crews arrived at the clinic, they were advised by staff members of an incident in the X-ray room and found that the fire had already been extinguished by VA personnel.

Through investigation, authorities learned that there was a "flash fire in an oxygen tank storage area in the X-ray room," the news release stated. Additional crews were called to the scene due to potential radiological exposure.

Crews later confirmed that the area was safe and that the fire had not spread anywhere else. The injured employee, whose name has not been released, was transported to a local hospital to be treated for burns.

The cause of the flash fire is under investigation.
