Juvenile arrested after fire Wednesday night at Sam's Club in Chattanooga

A juvenile was arrested after allegedly setting merchandise on fire at the Sam's Club on Lee Highway on Wednesday night as the store was full of customers, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

A shopper noticed a juvenile setting some mattresses and pillows on fire and extinguished the blaze with his coat, the release stated. Management was notified and 911 was called, according to the news release.

About 6:40 p.m., firefighters responded and made sure the fire was fully extinguished. There was minimal damage to merchandise and there were no injuries, according to the release.

The juvenile suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated arson and vandalism and was taken to a juvenile detention center.
