Chattanooga man arrested in connection with house fire on Allin Street

A man has been arrested and charged with aggravated arson and aggravated assault in connection with a June 3 house fire on Allin Street, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Van Keith III, 43, of Chattanooga, was arrested on June 9 after an investigation into a house fire on the 2100 block of Allin Street. Fire crews responded to the scene at around 5:45 a.m. to find "smoke coming from the windows, as well as the front and back door of the residence," the release said.

Multiple fire crews worked at the scene to extinguish the fire, with reported damage to the kitchen and front living area, as well as smoke damage throughout the home. One woman was transported to the hospital from the scene with unknown injuries, according to investigators.

It was determined through investigation that the suspect initially set the home on fire and then fled the scene, the release said.
