Man injured after falling down elevator shaft of Chattanooga office building

A man was injured Monday morning after falling 20 feet down an elevator shaft at a downtown Chattanooga office building, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Crews responded to the James Building at 735 Broad Street shortly after 8 a.m. on a report of a high fall. Investigators learned that the victim was a part of a crew working in the building and fell down the elevator shaft "due to the elevator car not being in place," the news release stated.

Firefighters were able to perform the rescue operation by accessing the victim from the basement of the building, and he was later transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released his name.
