Koch Foods in Chattanooga and the Sysco Corporation teamed up with Erlanger Children's Hospital and the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. The two companies are underwriting a pilot program inside the hospital's Childhood-Healthy Eating and Active Living (C-HEAL) Clinic. The clinic treats children diagnosed as overweight or obese.
Making healthy food choices is an integral part of the clinic's approach to helping those children; however, when a family cannot afford healthy foods, meeting their healthy eating goals is nearly impossible.
Food insecurity is a huge risk factor for childhood obesity. Thanks to these companies, families now will get a food voucher to be used at the Food Bank to buy healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables. What a wonderful gift to others. The hospital is truly thankful.
