The Chattanooga Area Food Bank recently received a $2,500 grant from the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation to help fund its Family Bag Program.

Alpha Gamma Delta helped support the Food Bank's COVID-19 emergency response to serve the projected one-in-five people overall, including one-in-four children, who may now face hunger as a result of the pandemic. Originally intended to address summer hunger when children were not receiving free and reduced school meals, the Family Bag Program expanded to begin early and include new sites in response to COVID-19 school closings in 11 rural Tennessee and Georgia counties.

"When school is out for summer every year, it can be difficult for families to afford to replace the meals their children usually receive through the National School Lunch Program," said Nutrition and Program Coordinator Dory Cooper. "This gap was magnified when schools closed due to the pandemic. We are grateful to Alpha Gamma Delta for their support that helped families in need."
