Bredesen will look out for Tennesseans' needs

I watched Gov. Phil Bredesen's "Choose Chattanooga" forum online when he was here Monday, and I was struck by his ideas for Southeast Tennessee. He wants to use TVA as a provider of high-speed broadband internet to rural communities. This position is refreshing because the internet is necessary today. Internet access will help grow businesses, improve educational opportunities, attract investment and increase our ability to connect with each other. Gov. Bredesen's vision would bridge the divide between rural and city internet access in Tennessee without involving corporate interests.

Here in Chattanooga we remember Marsha Blackburn's strong opposition to developing community broadband networks. When given the chance to support the expansion of EBP in Chattanooga, which could provide high-speed internet, the congresswoman chose to support private companies that drove up the cost of internet in rural Tennessee. She is known for representing private interests, not the people of our state.

We need someone like Phil Bredesen in Washington who can present fresh ideas to solve problems in Tennessee that serve us and not special interests. That's why I'm voting for Phil Bredesen for U.S. Senate.

In Bible, God says a lot about sanctity of life

I am writing this in response to the Sept. 30 "Go Ahead, abort; Bible's mum on it" letter to the editor.

In the Bible, God says a lot about the sanctity of life. The fact that the word "abortion" is not in the Bible does not negate the fact that the taking of life is not something God wants. Deuteronomy 5:17: "Thou shalt not kill."

Adam was not "conceived" at all. He was an adult "formed" or made by God: Genesis 2:7.

Fetuses are "alive" from conception. Whether they can survive outside the womb, they are alive. Ask any mother. Ask any scientist. Ask any doctor.

The Ammonites were called "an abomination," I Kings 11:7, because they sacrificed their children to their god Molech. Their fate is told in Ezekiel 25:1-7. Where are they today? Their nation is no more. As a nation we should heed Proverbs 14:34: "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people."

Democrats have lost their way; reject them

The Democratic Party has lost its way. Remember, they rejected and booed God out of their convention platform, and it shows. They seem to have no conscience. Nothing is too low for them to say or to do to try and gain power.

Christians take note: They rejected God. Let us reject them at the voting booth.

Step up and give blood, a gift of life

I was very sad to see that Harry Geller could no longer give blood to Blood Assurance. He is a true American hero who has saved many lives with his donations of the most valuable thing that we have to offer.

I am working on 32 gallons of blood donations. To think that Harry has donated twice what I have donated is mind boggling.

Science has never been able to duplicate blood so the only way for doctors and hospitals to get blood is for caring people to walk into Blood Assurance, roll up their sleeve and say I will give to help save a life.

I strongly suggest that more healthy people get involved.
