Incumbent Rep. Mike Carter, R-Ooltewah, won his challenge by Collegedale city commissioner Ethan White for the District 29 race, which covers much of eastern Hamilton County.

Unofficial polling results show Carter soundly defeated White 3,627 votes to 667.

White, a 27-year-old Collegedale city commissioner and realtor, said around 10 p.m. that he tried to call Carter "to congratulate him on his race, to concede."

"I'm very proud of the positive campaign that we ran," White said, adding that volunteers knocked on 5,000 doors and hand wrote about 4,400 notes to voters. "I'm very thankful to those who voted for me."

Unofficial results show Carter nearly 3,000 votes ahead of White after taking an early lead. Another 21 precincts need to report still.

District 29 covers much of the eastern part of the county.
