Rhonda Thurman will continue representing District 1 on the Hamilton County Board of Education, receiving 56.6 percent of the votes cast tonight.
District 1 is the most northern, rural part of the county, encompassing Soddy-Daisy and Sale Creek.
Thurman defeated two challengers, Patti Skates and Jason Moses, who received 35.8 percent and 7.4 percent of the vote respectively.
Skates is a longterm educator and the vice-mayor of Soddy-Daisy, and Moses is a Chattanooga fireman.
Thurman has served on the school board for 12 years, and is known for speaking her mind and questioning every expenditure brought before the board.
