Tennessee's IMPROVE Act, recently signed into law by Gov. Bill Haslam, will raise vehicle registration fees beginning July 1.

Like increases to fuel taxes, the extra revenue will go to fund road and bridge projects across the state. The fee increases affect all 95 of Tennessee's counties.

Hamilton County Clerk Bill Knowles has announced the extra registration cost amounts, which all go to the highway fund.

Personal vehicle registrations -including standard, disabled, military, motorcycle and specialty -will increase by $5.

Commercial registrations such as buses, limousines and taxis, will increase by $10, while freight registrations will increase by $20.

Registrations for vehicles that are 100 percent electric-powered will pay an additional $100.

"The increase in registration fees is in addition to the current fees," Knowles said.
