All four running backs help in Mocs win

The competition among University of Tennessee at Chattanooga running backs is friendly.

And their trash-talk is fun.

"I'm like, I'm going to get 100 yards tonight, so what are you going to do?'" said freshman starter Keon Williams, who last year starred at Red Bank.

For the first time this season, all four running backs played significant roles in the Mocs' game plan - a winning game plan after UTC dispatched No. 18 Georgia Southern 35-27 on Saturday in Finley Stadium.

Williams started and led the Mocs with 90 yards on 16 carries. Senior Erroll Wynn had 76 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Sophomore J.J. Jackson delivered a gut-punch of a touchdown on a sweep left on one of his three carries.

And Chris Awuah started it all when he caught a 46-yard touchdown pass from B.J. Coleman following two play-fakes.

"Everybody did good and we know we have four good running backs," Williams said. "We like to call ourselves the Fantastic Four.

"J.J. ran hard, Erroll ran hard, I ran hard, Awuah had passes out of the backfield. It was a good effort from all of us."

The Mocs punished the Eagles on the ground more in the second half, when they racked up 148 yards after the break - with every bit of that slowly breaking GSU.

"They lined up and whipped us," GSU coach Jeff Monken said. "We couldn't stop the run. It was just horrible. It wasn't a very good second half."

GSU defensive tackle Brent Russell witnessed and felt the punishment of UTC's ground attack on almost every play.

"They were pretty stout offensively and we had a plan to stop the run," Russell said. "We didn't do that, and that led to big passes."
