The UTC softball team defeated visiting East Tennessee 6-2 and 2-0 in their Southern Conference doubleheader Saturday. Freshman Allison Swinford (9-10) pitched a one-hitter after Celie Hudson (12-11) struck out seven in winning the first game for the third-place Mocs (25-24, 9-6). ETSU's Kelsey Chernak from Ooltewah was 2-for-3 with a double in the opener and had her team's hit in game two, when Brook Womack was 2-for-3 with a home run, Devan Brown was 3-for-3 and Katie Corum had a pinch-hit RBI single for UTC. Ashley Conner homered and singled and drove in four runs and Aly Walker and Alyssa Coppinger each had three hits in game one. Womack was 2-for-4 with a double, and Emma Sturdivant had a two-run single.

' For the second straight day in champion Chattanooga State's regular-season-ending TCCAA series at second-place Walters State, the 12th-ranked Lady Tigers won by run rule and lost on a two-out, three-run walk-off homer by Emily Whitaker. Walters (37-11, 27-7) won 4-3 before falling 14-1 in five innings. Abby Hicks allowed one run, unearned, in her five innings in game one for Chattanooga State (49-10, 32-3), and Madison Tidmore was 2-for-4 and scored twice. Morgan Marshall then pitched a two-hitter, Madison Crabtree was 3-for-4 with a homer and matched Kayla Woody (two hits) with four RBIs and two runs scored, Shelby Penning had two hits, an RBI and a run and Aimie Davidson had two RBIs.

' Leigh Beatenbough pitched a six-hitter and Taylor Moran went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs as Lee University opened its Gulf South series Saturday with a 3-1 win at Shorter, but then Shorter won 5-4 although Lee's Claudia Jones was 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs. Jones was 2-for-3 with a double in game one.

Baseball

' Lee gave up a seven-run ninth inning and lost 11-10 but then won 8-4 in GSC baseball Saturday at Shorter. Justen Freeman and Miguel Pimentel each had three RBIs and Freeman, Fernando Ortiz, Spencer Mossburg and Dalton Ney had two hits apiece in the loss for Lee (24-24, 15-13). Jordan Howard hit a three-run homer, Peyton Meeker also had three RBIs, Mossburg had a two-run hit and Pimentel tripled, doubled and scored twice in the win.

' Bryan College beat visiting Reinhardt 12-4 Friday night and 11-5 after losing 14-4 Saturday to end the regular season in a first-place tie with Tennessee Wesleyan in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, one game ahead of Reinhardt (36-15, 20-7). Friday for the Lions (38-13, 21-6), Fernando Garcia was 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, four RBIs and three runs while Lake Burris and Cody Young each had three hits and two RBIs and Trevor Behrent also had three hits.

' Tennessee Wesleyan swept its AAC series at Milligan with 9-5 and 11-1 victories Friday and a 6-4 win Saturday. Dakota Phillips was 6-for-9 with two home runs, six RBIs and five runs scored in Friday's two games for the Bulldogs (34-18, 21-6), who trailed 5-1 in the opener but scored three runs in the sixth inning, one in the eighth and four in the ninth - three on Aloysius Cruz's home run. Collin Ridout and Phillips homered in the sixth. In game two Braden Mosley and Malik Stephens each had two RBIs with Phillips' four, and Daniel Tolano struck out eight batters in his five innings pitched.

' Cleveland State ended its regular season with an eight-inning 8-7 win and a 10-7 victory Saturday at Jackson State after falling 6-3 in the TCCAA series opener Friday. Rhett Baldwin, Cameron Payne and Logan Peterson each had two hits and scored a run Friday, Baldwin with an RBI, for the Cougars (36-17, 14-12). In the 8-7 win Brandon Mason was 4-for-5 and Trey Vanderpool 3-for-4, and Hunter Oliver and Peterson each batted in three runs. Oliver and Caleb Collins homered. Mason and Peterson each had two RBIs in the finale, when Vanderpool and Oliver each was 2-for-4, Vanderpool scored two runs and Payne scored three.

Fishing

' Jacob Wheeler of Harrison slipped to 14th on the third day of the Bassmaster Elite tournament on Grand Lake O' the Cherokees in Oklahoma and missed the cut of 12 for the final round. Wheeler's five bass Saturday totaled 14 pounds, leaving him at 53-3, good for $10,000.

Lacrosse

' Sewanee lost 14-8 in the Southern Athletic Association men's lacrosse tournament final Saturday at top-seeded Rhodes (13-2), which got four goals and three assists from Ryan Fennelly. Jake Vaughn scored three goals and Thomas Lynde netted two for Sewanee (10-7), and Bryce Womack had 10 saves.

Football

' The Tennessee Titans Caravan is scheduled to be at the Academy Sports + Outdoors store near Hamilton Place mall at 5:30 p.m. today. It's a free event. Corey Davis and Jayon Brown are the players scheduled to greet fans and sign autographs.

Golf

' David Noll Jr. of Dalton and Mike Nance of Calhoun were in a three-way tie for second at 129 after Saturday's second round of the Georgia Four-Ball at Coosa Country Club in Rome. Atlanta-area residents Stephen Behr and Erik Martin led at 128.
