Evina Westbrook leads Lady Vols past Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. - Tennessee's Evina Westbrook set her collegiate career high by scoring 29 points on 12-for-15 shooting as the 11th-ranked Lady Volunteers handed Oklahoma State its first loss of the season, winning 76-63 Sunday in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge for women's basketball.

Tennessee remains undefeated through six games and will host Stetson (1-6) at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Boling Arena before another road game against a Big 12 program next Sunday at Texas (7-1). The Longhorns lost 67-49 to Mississippi State of the Southeastern Conference on Sunday.

In Stillwater, a pair of sophomore guards put on a show in an entertaining first half, when Tennessee's Westbrook made all eight of her shots to post 16 points and Oklahoma State's Braxtin Miller scored 22 points on 7-for-11 shooting - including 2-for-4 from 3-point range - and was 6-for-8 on free throws.

There were 10 ties and three lead changes in the first two quarters, and the Cowgirls (6-1) went into the locker room at halftime ahead 43-40.

Tennessee controlled the third quarter, scoring the first eight points and then following that with an 11-1 run. The Lady Vols led 61-49 entering the fourth quarter. The Cowgirls cut the deficit to 70-63 on two Miller free throws with three minutes to play, but Westbrook scored the last six points of the game.

Rennia Davis and Zaay Green had 15 points apiece for the Lady Vols and Cheridene Green had 13 rebounds to help produce a 45-28 rebounding advantage. Cheridene Green also had six points, three assists and three steals.

Tennessee shot 48.5 percent despite going 3-of-18 from behind the arc and getting outscored by 11 points at the foul line.

Miller finished with 29 points, five rebounds and five assists for Oklahoma State, while Vivian Gray added 14 points and Jaden Hobbs scored 12.

After next week's trip to Texas, the Lady Vols get an eight-day break from competition before hosting Stanford on Dec. 18, East Tennessee State on Dec. 21, Murray State on Dec. 28 and Belmont on Dec. 30. They will open their SEC schedule at Auburn on Jan. 3.
