Area standouts Grant Lundy and Jacob Mariakis were among four wrestling signees announced Wednesday by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The others were 197-pound state champion Logan Andrew of Winter Park, Florida, and 157-pounder Weston Wichman of Johnson Creek, Wisconsin.
Mariakis, another 157-pounder, is a two-time Georgia champion for Ridgeland High School and was a FloNationals and NHSCA 2018 All-American. Lundy went 37-1 as a Cleveland High School junior.
"Jacob brings the mentality and work ethic we look for in all our athletes. He is the definition of consistency and will be an excellent addition to the middle weights," first-year Mocs coach Kyle Ruschell said in a UTC release. "(Lundy) will also continue to add depth to our middle weights. We know Grant will have a great attitude, work ethic and passion every day. We love this pickup for the team."
Andrew was 40-9 and undefeated against Florida competition as a junior for Lake Highland Prep in Orlando, and Wichman is a three-time Wisconsin state qualifier with second- and fourth-place finishes to his credit.
"Weston comes from a nationally known and respected wrestling club in Wisconsin (and) has high expectations as an athlete," Ruschell said. "Logan will be an awesome addition to our upper weights."
