Vanderbilt's men's golfers rose from a tie for 10th to first at 553 with a 269 round Saturday in the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The Tennessee Volunteers are tied for second with Coastal Carolina at 557, one shot ahead of Liberty. UT-Chattanooga is 16th at 590, ahead of only Vandy's second team. The Mocs' Dominic Jones is at 146 and Connor Nolan, Lake Johnson, Oliver Simonsen, Moritz Lammel and Etienne Brault are at 148, 148, 149, 149 and 150.

Baseball

» Lee University won 13-3 and lost 4-0 in its Gulf South Conference home doubleheader Saturday against Delta State (25-10, 14-8). Miguel Pimentel was 2-for-5 with his 10th home run of the season and four RBIs in the win for Lee (17-20, 8-10), when Thomas Zazzaro was 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs batted in and three scored and Alan Smith, Ryan Beamish, Justin Fragale and Parker Stahlman each also had two hits. Logan Workman and Randall Coxwell combined to pitch a five-hitter, Coxwell getting the win with the Flames scoring 11 runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Pimentel was 2-for-4 in game two.

» First-place Walters State won 9-0 and 8-5 in TCCAA games Saturday at Cleveland State. Marcial Hernandez was 2-for-3 with two home runs and all five RBIs in the second loss for the Cougars (19-13, 9-6), whose Kendall Catlett was 2-for-2 in game one. Alex Haynes pitched a nine-strikeout three-hitter for Walters (35-5, 14-1).

» Bryan College completed an Appalachian Athletic Conference series sweep of visiting Union (Kentucky) with a 12-6 victory that included five Lions homers and a 14-10 comeback win that ended with a Anthony Tejeda grand slam. Parker Cosby was 3-for-5 with two homers and five RBIs in game one, and Wade Weinburger, Lake Burris and Marcus Catalano each homered and had two RBIs. Burris was 3-for-4 and scored four runs in the rematch, when he, Jesus Astudillo and Jacob Justice homered along with Tejeda. Justice's was a pinch-hit three-run shot.

» Sewanee won 8-1 and lost 9-0 at Hendrix in Southern Athletic Association play. Trey Holland pitched a three-hitter, Riley Brandvold was 4-for-4 with three doubles and four runs, Chris McNulty was 3-for-3 with a homer, Jack Galanek also homered and Braxton Swanson hit a two-run double in the win for Sewanee (18-13, 5-9).

Softball

» Chattanooga State, ranked 11th in the NJCAA, is 31-5 overall and 16-2 in TCCAA play after winning 20-4 in five innings and 6-0 Saturday at Southwest Tennessee. Lindsay Modar and Abby Wall pitched the first game, when Haley Smith was 3-for-3 and Ashlyn Holland and Katie Cheeseman each was 2-for-3 and the three drove in two runs apiece. Sarah Wilson was 2-for-2. Then Holland was 3-for-4 with a run scored and Breanna Vinson was 3-for-4 with an RBI while Brooke Parrott pitched a four-hitter with nine strikeouts.

» Cleveland State won 2-1 and lost 1-0 at home in its TCCAA doubleheader against Walters State (22-14, 14-6) and is 15-16, 6-12.

» Lee lost 12-3 and won 11-6 in GSC home games against Delta State (21-17, 11-12). Taylor De Adder had two hits and two RBIs in each game and Kayla Louie had five hits, stole four bases and scored three runs in the doubleheader for Lee (17-24, 6-13). Bailey Church and Claudia Jones each homered and drove in two runs in Lee's win, while Kiley Longmire was 4-for-4 and matched Church with three runs and Lily Hatcher and Stevie Baird each was 2-for-3, with two RBIs and one.

» Covenant won 7-1 and 3-1 in USA South play at Wesleyan in Macon, Georgia, as Carsyn Stone struck out six batters in the opener and Sarah Huskey followed with a four-hitter. Madalyn Ames was 3-for-4 with three runs and Cope Whitaker was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Covenant (11-18, 6-6) in the first game, when Madyson Gibbins was 2-for-3 and Faith Manning was 1-for-1 with three walks and each scored twice. Manning and Ames had three steals apiece. Gibbins was 3-for-4 and scored a run in game two, while Jada Allmon and Shelby Ralston each was 2-for-3 and Whitaker, Manning and Allmon had the RBIs.

Fishing

» Gary Clouse of Winchester finished 30th Saturday in the Bassmaster Elite tournament at Lake Hartwell and earned $7,500 for his three-day total of 40 pounds. Brandon Cobb of Greenwood, South Carolina, led for the third straight day and at 55-6 takes a 5-pound-10-ounce lead into Sunday's 10-man final round.

General

» The Chattanooga Quarterback Club will hold its last noon luncheon meeting until September on Monday at Finley Stadium, and the public is welcome. Attendance costs $10 with a meal, $4 without. The guest speaker will be UTC vice chancellor and athletic director Mark Wharton.
