Charlton Warren, who served as Tennessee's secondary coach in 2017 and Florida's cornerbacks coach this past season, was announced Saturday night as Georgia's new secondary coach.

Charlton Warren is making his way around the Southeastern Conference's Eastern Division.

After spending the 2017 season as Tennessee's secondary coach and special-teams coordinator and working last season as Florida's cornerbacks coach, Warren was announced Saturday as Georgia's new defensive backs coach. Warren inherits the position group that was guided the past three years by Mel Tucker, who left the Bulldogs last month to become Colorado's head coach.

"Charlton is from Atlanta and has a wide range of experience coaching defensive football at several universities and conferences around the country," Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said in a news release. "His entire coaching career has been spent working on the defensive side of the ball and especially defensive backs. He has developed an outstanding record and reputation in the coaching profession, and he'll bring great knowledge and energy to our staff."

Warren played defensive back at Air Force and spent the first nine seasons (2005-13) of his coaching career at his alma mater, serving as defensive coordinator for the final two. He was Nebraska's defensive backs coach in 2014 and had the same role at North Carolina in the 2015 and '16 seasons.

In his one season at Tennessee, the Volunteers allowed the second-fewest passing yards (1,950) and passing yards per game (161.7) in the SEC. Warren helped Florida this past season finish 17th nationally in pass efficiency defense.

Georgia now has all 10 assistant coaches allowed by the NCAA, but Smart has yet to name a defensive coordinator.
