A strong rally by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team fell short Thursday night in Greensboro, North Carolina, as the Mocs lost 53-49 to UNC Greensboro in their next-to-last regular-season game.

UTC (12-16, 7-6 Southern Conference), which trailed 21-17 at halftime after shooting 28 percent and committing 13 turnovers, fell behind the Spartans (11-17, 5-8) by 12 in the final quarter before rallying. UNCG held a 52-43 lead with just 1:18 to play after Te'ja Twitty scored four consecutive points.

Mya Long hit a 3-pointer for the Mocs, as did Lakelyn Bouldin with 19 seconds to play. Bouldin was fouled on the play but missed the free throw. The Mocs got the offensive rebound, but Bria Dial's potential game-tying 3-pointer fell off with seven seconds to play. Twitty, who led the Spartans with 19 points and 11 rebounds, made one of two free throws to ice the win.

Bouldin was the lone UTC player to score in double figures with 17 points. Long added nine points, with Arianne Whitaker getting a team-best seven rebounds and six blocked shots.

The Mocs close the regular season Saturday at Western Carolina.
