Samantha Griffith felt a bit nervous Thursday morning standing on the first tee at The Honors Course.
She concluded the morning by relaxing in a rocking chair overlooking the 18th green after winning the Girls 15-18 division of the CDGA Junior Classic.
Griffith beat Jenny Adkins 5 and 4 to earn a first-place framed flag in the annual CDGA Junior Tour championship event at the spectacular course.
"We made it to hole No. 14 and she missed a putt, so it was over then," Griffith said. "I took my time on every shot and thought it through.
"I had some good birdie putts that I made, like No. 5 when I was at the bottom of the green and I made it up a big hill."
Katherine Holmes beat Bethany Burns 4 and 2 in the 12-14 girls' division.
Levi Nix dispatched Blake Boerger 7 and 5 in the 16-18 boys' division. Tucker Snipes beat Alexander Riddle 5 and 4 in the 14-15 boys' final, and Justin Hickman beat Sport Allmond 3 and 2 for the 12-13 title.
Each of the participants reached the classic by earning points throughout the summer.
"It was a good experience playing different courses and being in new situations," Griffith said. "My scores kept getting better as the summer went on."
