Chattanooga Christian School's Jonathan Xoinis and Baylor's Kyndall Shamblin are in the hunt for golf state titles Tuesday.

Both City Prep champions were solid Monday in the first 18-hole round at WillowBrook Golf Club in Manchester to begin the two-day Division II-AA state tournament.

Xoinis birdied four holes in shooting a 1-under-par 71. The Tennessee State University commitment is tied for third in a field led by Montgomery Bell Academy's Bradford Cummins at 68.

Shamblin, a sophomore, shot 2-over 74 in the girls' division and is in a tie for fourth place. Her Lady Red Raiders are in second place with a team score of 155 - 15 strokes behind national powerhouse St. Agnes, whose Rachel Heck is the individual leader at 69.

After winning the team state title last year, the Baylor boys are in fourth place at 309. The Red Raiders had a pair of eagles and were led by Sheldon McKnight, who is tied for seventh after a 72.

The McCallie Blue Tornado are third with a 305, while Ensworth shot even-par 288 to lead the field by six strokes over MBA.

McCallie's Bennett McNabb and Charles Warren carded 74s and are tied for 10th, while Samuel Levine had an eagle and shot 76 to crack the top 15. Warren leads the field with 14 pars.

Baylor's Demi Dimatteo also shot 74 and birdied three times along with McCallie's McNabb.

Boyd Buchanan's Hannah Massey is 16th in the Division II-A state girls' field.
