Prep roundup: Lady Trojans honor Clifford Kirk with impressive tournament win

Soddy-Daisy High School softball players wore wristbands with the initials "CK" as they took the field Friday to honor the late Clifford Kirk.

"We are playing in the memory of Clifford," said the Lady Trojans' leadoff hitter Courtney Sneed who will play college softball for Tennessee Wesleyan. "We all are motivated and he meant a lot to so many people. Today was a day to remember him, no matter if we win or lose."

Sneed went 3-for-3 with a stolen base in Friday's 10-0 win over Sale Creek to open the Clifford Kirk Memorial Tournament. Regan Uren also drove in three runs, while Tatum Massengale doubled in a run and Jenna Sims hit a two-run home run to back up strong pitching work by Taylor Lloyd.

The Lady Trojans fell 9-3 in their next game to Summitt.

* Chattanooga Christian 4, Ooltewah 3; CCS 4, Gibbs 3; CCS 7, Cleveland 1: The Lady Chargers enjoyed a stellar 3-0 start to the Clifford Kirk Memorial Tournament as Lauren Kay had a strong day at the plate going 5-for-8 with a home run, three doubles and six RBIs. Emily Day, Halie Thompson and Autumn Hughes all picked up victories pitching for the Lady Chargers who are now 6-1.

* Walker Valley 11, Hixson 0: Hailey Leslie and Sierra Brown each homered and went 2-for-2 with four runs batted in. Madilyn Kidd also doubled twice and drove in two runs, while Addyson Girard threw four shutout innings, allowing just one hit for the win.

* Silverdale Academy 17, South Pittsburg 2: Breanna Sexton went 2-for-3 with five RBIs and homered along with McCade Cooper, Bentlee Stiner and Katherine Willoughby.

* Silverdale Academy 9, Whitwell 3: Addison Keef and McCade Cooper each had two hits while Katherine Willoughby allowed one earned run over five innings to pick up the victory for the Lady Seahawks.

* Silverdale Academy 12, Red Bank 2: The Lady Seahawks had 12 hits as eighth grader Gabbie Hensley went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

* Red Bank 6, Whitwell 0: Bailey Phillips tossed a three-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts while she and Lexie Wright (3-for-4) also hit home runs. Wright drove in three, while Hannah Brown doubled twice for the Lady Lions.

BASEBALL

* Gordon Lee 5, Silverdale Baptist Academy 3: Brody Cobb's two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning propelled the Trojans (15-2) to the win in the Yellow Jacket Classic at Lookout Valley, handing Silverdale its first loss. Jake Poindexter earned the win with six innings of five-hit, one earned run pitching with seven strikeouts. Cade Peterson was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and Kade Cowan and Rodgers each had two hits, while Cobb earned the save with a perfect bottom of the seventh. Cameron Mullins had two hits and Ian Reagan an RBI for Silverdale (8-1).

* South Pittsburg 12, University High 0: Austin Jackson drove in three runs on two hits and Javen Talley plated a pair of runs as the Pirates collected 10 hits. Ryan Cagle and Hunter Powers each had two hits and Brayden Sanders allowed just two hits in five innings for the win.

* South Pittsburg 16, Lookout Valley 0: The Pirates scored nine of their runs in the final two innings as Reece Genter drove in five with three hits, while Austin Jackson and Luke Rector each plated three on a pair of hits. Jackson Lewis pitched five innings of no-hit ball, striking out three.

* Walker Valley 5, Gwinnett 2: The Mustangs landed another late-inning comeback as they scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth while Aaron Martinez shut the door with four strikeouts over the final two innings. Walker Valley doubled five times in the victory in which Ben Essenburg and Aiden Gibson went 2-for-3 with RBIs.

* Sequatchie County 1, Brentwood Academy 1: Logan Potts and Bodie Terry each singled and combined for eight strikeouts over seven sharp innings of work for the Indians.

* Eagleville 12, Sequatchie County 2: Anthony Wright doubled and stole two bases for the Indians.

* Ringgold 4, Rockmart 0: The Tigers (14-5) improved to 9-0 in Region 6-AAA as Chase Ghormley pitched a three-hit shutout with six strikeouts. Eli Norris had three hits, Colin Mountjoy an RBI double and Kenyon Ransom and Dre Morris each drove in a run.

* Sonoraville 8, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 2: Zach Lyles was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Hayden Holsomback added two hits and an RBI to lead the Phoenix (10-8, 5-4 in Region 6-AAA), who also received two hits and an RBI from Cole Gross and two RBIs from Jax Lockaby.

* Calhoun 11-5, Cass 0-0: Bryse Ingle pitched a five-inning no-hitter with six strikeouts for the Yellow Jackets (11-6, 7-4) in game one of the Region 7-AAAAA doubleheader, with Braden Saunders pitching six innings and allowing three hits with 10 strikeouts in game two. Parker Lester belted a pair of home runs and drove in four, with Jacob Tolson adding a home run among his two hits and drove in four in game one. Dante Morton, Kris Sutton, Cooper Evans and Saunders had RBIs for Calhoun in game two.

* LaFayette 13, North Murray 0: Skylar Cepeda pitched a no-hitter with seven strikeouts while also getting two hits and driving in a pair of runs for the Ramblers (8-9, 2-5 in Region 6-AAA). Austin Tucker was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored, Case Davis 2-for-3 with an RBI and run, Blake Mann had two hits and Nick Adams drove in three for LaFayette.
