A day after having to go 11 innings to win a region game, the Calhoun High School baseball crossed state lines Wednesday afternoon to defeat Notre Dame 7-1 in Chattanooga.

The Yellow Jackets (16-6), 1-0 winners over Woodland-Bartow late Tuesday, continued to get great pitching against the Fighting Irish (5-9), with Jake Slaughter going 4 2/3 innings in relief to get the win after allowing one run and four hits.

Parker Lester was 2-for-3 and gave Calhoun a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning with an RBI single. FOOTBALL

Veteran Georgia coach Andy Scott will take over the program at LaFayette, the high school announced Wednesday. Scott, who previously was head coach at Perry and Kennesaw Mountain, replaces Paul Ellis, who resigned after three seasons.

Ellis led the Ramblers to a 12-19 record in his tenure and capped his stint by taking the program to the playoffs last season for the first time in 27 years, ending the longest drought in the state.

Scott, a native of McMinnville, Tennessee, played collegiately at Memphis State and Middle Tennessee State. After resigning from Kennesaw Mountain - a program that was winless the year before he took over - after six years as a head coach, Scott coached at Hiram last year as the team's defensive coordinator.
