Prep roundup: Hixson senior Bradley Dossett shuts down Cleveland in 2-0 road victory

Hixson senior pitcher Bradley Dossett threw a 101-pitch complete game shutout on the road in Thursday's 2-0 victory over Cleveland.

A.J. Wild and Manny Velazquez continued to spark the top of the Wildcats lineup as they combined for three doubles, while Wild drove in a vital run. Dossett also doubled and struck out seven while leaving eight runners stranded. Nic Castro added an RBI sacrifice fly in the victory.

Hixson is now 15-6 overall this season.

BASEBALL

Walker Valley 11, Sweetwater 0: Aiden Gibson went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs from the leadoff spot, while Preston Hodges also homered and drove in a pair along with Landon Franklin. Ben Essenburg and Blake Smith combined to strike out seven over four innings of one-hit ball.

Bradley Central 6, Rhea County 4: Iverson Vasquez hit what turned out to be the game-winning, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth while Landen Kibler added an insurance run with an RBI single to left. Bradley's Daniel Cox had three hits along with Rhea County's Cade Cook. Dakota Peace also reached base all four times for the Bears.

McCallie 11, Chattanooga Christian 0: Grayson Smith struck out 12 in five innings and Will Fugatt delivered a two-run pinch hit home run. Nolan Sergeant tripled and drove in a run, while Javen Johnson and Austin Breedlove had two RBIs in the victory.

Parkview 9, Baylor 5: The Red Raiders' 12-game win streak ended as Parkview's Daylon Carleton hit two home runs and drove in five. Cooper Kinney remained red hot going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, while Nick Kurtz (3-for-4) and Hunter Herndon (2-for-3) also stood out for Baylor.

Silverdale Baptist 10, Red Bank 0: Brett Rogers and Brody Lamb homered to back a strong pitching performance by Brody Lamb and Eric Boggess. Turner Junkins also drove in two while going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases.

Lookout Valley 15, Copper Basin 8: The Yellow Jackets had 16 hits as Rylan Collins went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Christian Chandler had three hits and Jacob Winchester doubled twice and scored three runs for Lookout Valley.

Lookout Valley 7, Copper Basin 6: Christian Chandler scored the walk-off winner advancing home shortly after he had stolen third base. Mason Randolph and Chandler each scored twice while Avery Qualis drove in a pair. Jacob Winchester threw a complete game for the win.

Sonoraville 10, Coahulla Creek 4: Devin Hackney shut things down with three scoreless innings in relief while Jaxon Pate and Cole Gross combined to drive in five runs for the Phoenix.

SOFTBALL

GPS 5, Chattanooga Christian 4: Ansley Giffin hit a walk-off RBI double to lift the Bruisers to victory. Chapel Cunnigham had three hits and a double in the victory while Ansley Blevins drew four walks. Emily Day homered and Addi Lewis drove in two for CCS.

East Hamilton 13, Bradley Central 5: The District 5-AAA leading Lady Hurricanes received four RBIs from Grace Hixson (3-for-3) who homered along with Danielle Wasserstrom, who also triped and drove in six.

Walker Valley 13, Ooltewah 3: Grace Martin enjoyed a big day going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and Michelle Benson had three hits and scored three times for the Lady Mustangs. Hailey Leslie did not allow an earned run in five sharp innings.

Soddy-Daisy 12, McMinn County 0: Regan Rowan went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Taylor Lloyd struck out nine over six scoreless and drove in three runs. Tatum Massengale and Courtney Sneed combined for five hits and seven runs in the win.

Hixson 14, East Ridge 2: Zoie Sullivan homered and smacked two doubles as a part of a four RBI performance. Devon Cook (two doubles, triple) and Meghan Kernea also had hot bats collecting three hits, while Ari Neal drove in three runs for Hixson.

Silverdale Baptist 3, Boyd Buchanan 1: Katie Willoughby struck out 11 while Kennedy Stinson tripled twice and drove in two crucial runs for the Lady Seahawks who also got a home run from McCade Cooper. Boyd's Katie Powell had two hits while Presley Williamson doubled.

SOCCER

Grace Academy 1, Notre Dame 0: The Golden Eagles scored the game-winner in the 80th minute of overtime as Jordan Smith booted the ball in off an assist from Tucker Gaby. Grace's keeper Riley Thompson was sharp with 11 saves in the win.

Soddy-Daisy 0, Rhea County 0: The Trojans won 5-3 on penalty kicks as Chadler Hartman, Omar Lopez, David Lopez, Jose Enriquez and Noah Blue all scored. Soddy-Daisy is now 7-1-3 this season.

TENNIS

* Baylor put on a dominant display on the courts in a 7-0 region shutout over Chattanooga Christian. The Red Raiders' double teams of Manuel Archurra and Justin Todd along with Nic Cooper and Matthew Templeton each posted 8-0 victories as the team's record improved to 7-2 this season. Nicholas Cooper and Archurra have provided strong leadership as Baylor's two seniors this season.

* GPS' doubles duo of Emily Ensign and Claire Nicola posted an 8-0 doubles victory while MK Johnson, Carolina Clark, Ava Scotchie and Madison Archer were all dominant in singles for the Bruisers in a 6-1 victory over CCS.

BOWLING

The Tennessee Sports Writers Association's all-state team included Walker Valley senior Jacob Brown as well as Notre Dame's C.J. Petrin and Boyd Buchanan's Caleb Kelley.
