Prep roundup: GPS wins in softball, McCallie tops Baylor in tennis

GPS star catcher Ansley Blevins, who has committed to Middle Tennessee State's softball program, went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs to spark an 8-2 home victory over Walker Valley on Wednesday.

Sierra Brown drove in two runs in the first inning for Walker Valley, but GPS pitcher Mikayla Beard held down the Lady Mustangs the rest of the way. Madalyn Hubbard (two hits) and Kennedy Moore (two RBIs) also delivered in the victory for the Bruisers.

Chattanooga Christian School 11, Cleveland 10: Autumn Hughes was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and pitched a complete game for CCS.

* Soddy-Daisy's 8-0 start includes winning the Meigs County Tiger Classic this past weekend, when Tatum Massengale homered and Jenna Simms drove in three runs to help beat Sequatchie County 7-6 in the title game.

TENNIS

* McCallie was sharp in a 7-0 home win over rival Baylor. Gabe Getz and Will Leathers won their doubles match 8-1, and Andreas Sillaste and Collin Tuttle were dominant in closing out singles victories.

* CCS earned a pair of 9-0 sweeps in boys' and girls' matches. Mary Alice Anz and Jada Tun won 8-1 in doubles and also dominated in singles victories. The Chargers were led by Simon Horne and Levi Lubbers, who each won 8-0 in singles, and Jackson Murphy and Matthew Patrick were decisive in doubles.

BASEBALL

Rhea County 13, CCS 2: The Golden Eagles scored three runs in three consecutive innings starting in the bottom of the third. John Combs was the winning pitcher, striking out seven batters in four scoreless innings, and he also drove in three runs along with Lane Brooks, who doubled twice. Cade Cook homered for Rhea County. The Chargers were led by Henry Horne (3-for-3, RBI) and Cole Headrick (2-for-3).

South Pittsburg 9, Notre Dame 8: The Pirates scored four runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth to rally for the win. Ryan Cagle went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Reese Genter 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Brayden Sanders 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Soddy-Daisy 8, Ooltewah 2: The Trojans scored eight unanswered runs, which started with four in the top of the third. Landon Maynor jolted the offense by going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Aaron Watson backed his own complete game with two hits, two runs and an RBI. Watson allowed one run on four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts. Ooltewah's Fisher Perry was 2-for-4.

Dalton 4, Paulding County 3: Caleb Nix drove in three runs, including a tying double in the sixth after earlier blasting a two-run homer for the Catamounts. Brady Pendley had the winning RBI single in the sixth, and Kaleb Valdez finished with three hits and two runs for Dalton (6-9, 3-2 GHSA Region 5-AAAAAA).

Dade County 11, Fannin County 5: The Wolverines (6-8, 4-1 Region 7-AA) rolled behind Brodie Swader's five RBIs off a homer and a double, with Nolan Heath getting two hits, two RBIs and two runs, Kaden Moore two hits and an RBI and Zeke Wheeler two RBIs.

Calhoun 7-5 , Hiram 2-2: The Yellow Jackets (9-6, 6-3 Region 7-AAAAA) completed the three-game series sweep. Owen Hall went four innings in relief to win game one Wednesday, allowing four hits and no runs with five strikeouts. Parker Lester, Andon Lewis and Barrett Saunders each drove in two runs, with Kris Sutton adding two hits. Jake Slaughter went the distance in the finale, allowing six hits and one earned run. Dante Morton had two hits and an RBI, with Sutton adding a pair of hits and Jacob Tolson driving in two runs.

Walker Valley 10, East Hamilton 9: Landon Franklin had three hits and two RBIs for the Mustangs on Tuesday, when Lane Miller (2-for-2, three RBIs) and Logan Wallace (2-for-3, two RBIs) also had a big night for the winners. Carson Hedrick was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Hurricanes.

Silverdale Baptist Academy 15, South Pittsburg 14: A six-run sixth inning helped the Seahawks win the nondistrict game. Brody Lamb was 3-for-4 with five RBIs, and Ian Reagan was 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Ryan Cagel drove in four runs for the Pirates, and Javen Talley was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
