Powell scored in each of the first three quarters, building a 27-point lead and eliminating visiting Rhea County 27-13 in a TSSAA Class 5A quarterfinal Friday night.

Golden Eagles sophomore Ethan Davis ran for 145 yards on 24 carries and Cale O'Dell added 101 total yards and scored both of Rhea's touchdowns, with each coming in the final six minutes. Powell was led by Jordyn Potts' 167 passing yards and Jarvis Stockton's 142 rushing in advancing to the semifinals for the first time since 2012.

The Panthers allowed more than seven points for just the second time in an eight-game stretch, but they held Rhea 29 points below its season average. The Eagles had scored 51 and 63 points in their first two playoff games but were held to 241 total yards.
