Tyner boys off to strong start to the basketball season

With a mixture of impressive guards the Tyner boys' basketball season is off to a fast and impressive 3-0 start.

The Rams put together a complete defensive performance as they beat Boyd Buchanan, 56-37, in the Chattanooga Christian Thanksgiving Tournament Tuesday night.

Nehemiah Bloodsaw scored a team-high 11 points and senior guard Xavier Fisher added nine points while Latavious Conyers added eight points and provided solid defense.

E'Jay Ward's team looks tough in the early going as Josh Jackson, Keelan Jackson and Rodney Henderson have also had impressive showings for a team loaded with strong guards and good size.

BOYS

Red Bank 79, Sale Creek 36: Six Lions players scored in double figures while eight had at least seven points in the road victory. Red Bank scored 33 points in the second quarter in which Kalen Sewell, Javanta Johnson and Eric Alex all contributed eight points. Kendrick Loyd scored 12 in the runaway victory.

Silverdale Baptist 71, Central 61: Brett Wright scored 20 points while Sam Bambrey contributed 14 points and three 3-pointers in the Seahawks' victory. Matthew Sharpe led the Purple Pounders with 25 points.

Christian Heritage 67, Collegedale Academy 49: The Lions (2-1) won at the Chattanooga Christian tournament as Jax Abernathy scored 34 points and Brandon Koneman added 15. Jonah Madrigal led Collegedale with 17.

Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 54, Chattanooga Christian 49: The Warriors improved to 2-0 at the Chattanooga Christian tournament as Jamichael Davis scored 10 of his game-high 27 points in the second quarter, where LFO had a 14-6 edge. Parker Graham and Boo Carter led CCS with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Northwest Whitfield 58, Signal Mountain 38: The Bruins opened the season with a win at the Ridgeland Thanksgiving Tournament as Payton Baker scored 16 of his 18 points in the third quarter and Will Anderson added 11 total points. Andrew Matukewicz topped Signal Mountain with 10 points.

Ridgeland 75, Gordon Lee 56: Judd Anderson scored 18 of his game-high 23 points in the second half to lead the Panthers to the win in their season opener. Ryan Clark had five 3-pointers in adding 16 points, with Matthew Ramsey hitting four treys in scoring 14 for Ridgeland. Hunter Holmes led Gordon Lee (0-1) with 18 points.

GIRLS

Sale Creek 73, Red Bank 3: The Lady Panthers defense allowed just one field goal in the third quarter while jumping out to a 32-0 lead after the first quarter. Sale Creek's Keilyn Morgan scored 12 of her game-high 16 points in the opening frame.

Grace Academy 47, Hixson 35: Taylor Adams and Savannah Engelbrecht combined for five 3-pointers and 33 points to lead Grace to victory. Anna Johnston led Hixson with 11 points.

Soddy-Daisy 43, Chattanooga Christian 37: Alivia Hall led the way for the Lady Trojans with 14 points and a pair of 3-pointers while teammates Jada Trimiar and Rebecca Morgan each added 10 in the victory. CCS' Aayannah Baird scored 13 points.

Boyd Buchanan 51, Gordon Lee 19: Jalisa Sanders scored 13 for the Lady Bucs who led 34-3 at halftime.

Lakeview-F.O. 64, Collegedale Academy 22: At the Chattanooga Christian tournament, the Lady Warriors (2-0) used 19 points from Christen Collins, 16 from Angel Simmons and 12 from Christine Collins to down the Lady Eagles.

Sonoraville 68, Armuchee 39: The Lady Phoenix (2-1) rolled at the Armuchee Thanksgiving Classic behind 15 points apiece from Brynley Walraven, who had four 3-pointers, and Diana Smith, who scored eight of her points in the second period.

Monday's Boys' games

Boyd Buchanan 47, Christian Heritage 41: Jacob Shockley scored a game-high 16 points and Jaylon Moore grabbed 15 rebounds for the Buccaneers (2-0), who outscored the Lions by six in the fourth quarter.

Friendship Christian 72, Lookout Valley 32: Jackson Marsh scored 12 points in the Yellow Jackets' defeat.

Monday's Girls' games

Boyd Buchanan 64, Central 12: The Lady Bucs got a strong 14-point performance from Dani Reeves. Allie McFarland added 10 points for Boyd, who scored 25 points in the first quarter.
