Chattanooga Football Club lost 2-1 to Detroit City FC in an exhibition match Saturday night at Finley Stadium.
The National Premier Soccer League clubs - two of the top-attended programs in the league - will play again next Saturday in Detroit. CFC will then host a friendly on May 12 against the Seattle Sounders' U-23 club before starting the regular season a week later on May 19 against the Emerald Force SC in Chattanooga.
After a scoreless half Saturday, Detroit City scored twice in a 15-minute span midway through the second half in front of an announced crowd of 5,245. In the 62nd minute, Roddy Green scored on a chip shot, then in the 77th minute, Shawn Lawson scored for the visitors.
CFC's Joaquin Cabello scored on a penalty kick in the final minutes to prevent the shutout.
It was CFC's third exhibition match of the preseason. After tying Major League Soccer's FC Dallas 1-1 on Feb. 3, CFC lost 3-1 decision to the newly formed Nashville Soccer Club.
