Holland, Ryan pace Chattanooga State 5-0 win in national opener

Ashlynn Holland hit two home runs and Sam Ryan pitched a three-hitter as Chattanooga State won its opener Tuesday night in the NJCAA Division I softball tournament in Yuma, Arizona.

The Lady Tigers (53-8), seeded eighth out of 16 teams, beat ninth seed Southern Idaho 5-0 and next face No. 1 Florida SouthWestern, an 8-0 winner over Georgia Military.

Holland was 2-for-2, homering in the second and sixth innings. Reagan Hartley added an RBI single and Marquila Howell a two-run double. Ryan (21-3) struck out seven batters.
