Larry McAfee

Fla. Larry L. McAfee passed away at the age of 74 on Jan. 20, 2014, after a brief bout with cancer. He was born to Sam and Marjorie McAfee in Soddy-Daisy, and had lived in Pensacola since 1979. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many brothers and sisters in Christ. Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Dorothy Pollard McAfee; son Steve McAfee, of Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Susan Smith (Kevin), of Pace, Fla.; grandsons, Jacob (Ashley) Holt, of Alexandria, Va., Joshua Holt and Nicholas Holt, of Pensacola; brother, Fred (Kathy) McAfee, of Jacksonville, Fla., and sisters Linda (Allen) Phillips of Pinellas Park, Fla. and Jane (Franklin) Smith, of Soddy-Daisy; one nephew; three nieces and an extended Church family. Larry served his country for much of his life with 22 years active duty in the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of Navy Chief, followed by 23 years civil service at NAS Pensacola. He was an active member of the Warrington Church of Christ where he served in various ministries and had been an elder for a number of years in the past. Larry had an inquisitive nature, enjoying his many travels with his family during his years of Navy service. He maintained his keen sense of humor and concern for others until the very end of his life. Memorial services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at Warrington Church of Christ.
