Paula Baker

Paula Ruth Pyle Baker, 75, left this earthly home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014. She was born in Tullahoma, Tenn., on Oct. 24, 1938 to the late Paul Pyle and Ruth Pyle Bennett. Paula graduated from Rossville High School, U.T. Chattanooga, and received her masters of education from Berry College. She taught elementary school for 30 years in Rossville and Fairview and touched countless lives through her devotion to her students. Her family remembers with pride her honor as Walker County Teacher of the Year. She was very active and devoted to her Oakwood Baptist Church in Chickamauga. Friends made here through Sunshine Ministries, Celebrate Recovery, Sunday School and Bikers on Mission are treasures of her life well lived. Paula leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Johnny Baker; sister, Suzanne Enzfelder; brother, Wayne Pyle; children, Debbie, Wayne and John; grandchildren, Callan, Mariel, Hayden and Jake. Paula and Johnny loved each other through 58 years of marriage and taught their children the importance of that partnership. Each of their children brought love into the family with son-in-law, Matt Steinmann, and daughters-in-law, Beth and Judy. Paulas love was the center of our family and we are blessed beyond words. The family wishes to thank the staff of Parkside Nursing Home for the loving and compassionate care she received there. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood Baptist Church with Pastor Allen Farris officiating. Mrs. Baker will lie-in-state from noon until the service hour at the church. To share expressions of sympathy, visit her online guestbook at lane-southcrestchapel.com. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
