Minnie Saieed

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Minnie Quinn Saieed, born Dec. 19, 1921, passed away Nov. 21, 2018, at the age of 96, leaving a large and loving family of five children, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and extended family members and friends who adore her. Minnie married Daniel Ray Saieed Sr., in 1944. She became a loving part of the larger Saieed family in Greenville, N.C., who operated Saieed’s Department Store from 1920 to 1960. She so enjoyed the many years of Saieed family gatherings and reunions and trips to Atlantic Beach, N.C. where the family summered in the family cottages. She was an active member of Greenville Presbyterian Church, Greenville Country Club, and North Ridge Country Club, Raleigh, N.C. She enjoyed the many friends in Greenville and later in Raleigh, N.C., and Wilmington, N.C., where Minnie and Dan retired. A graduate of East Carolina University, she was elected Miss East Carolina, 1942. Minnie was a high school teacher, Mother, and loyal wife to Daniel Ray Saieed of 68 years. She was the consummate Southern lady, extending kindness to all, gracious, strong and accepting of others no matter their circumstances. She enjoyed bridge, a love of literature, cooking, and entertaining on a perfectly set dining room table. Her family will miss her immensely and she will forever be in their hearts. She was preceded in death by her parents, Graham and Lillian Rivenbark Quinn; her husband, Daniel Ray Saieed Sr.; and her brother, Graham Smith Quinn Jr. She was the devoted Mother of Daniel Ray Saieed Jr. (Karen), of Chattanooga, Tenn., Lillian Jenkins (Eldridge), of Wilmington, N.C., Sylvia Livingston (Frank), of Oak Island, N.C., Steve Saieed (Mary), of Wilmington, N.C., Suzanne Olson (Jim), of Malvern, Pa. She was the beloved grandmother of Sam Saieed (Alicia), Stephen Saieed (Tracey), Kelly Barnes, James Sullivan (Dorothy), Heather Gleason (Patrick), John, Quinn, and Garrett Olson; great-grandmother to Bradley, Sydney, and twins Nora and Oliver. She is also survived by her loving nephew Dr. Graham E. Quinn (Dianne) of Philadelphia, Pa.; niece, Linda Quinn Rawlett (Matt), of Leland, N.C.; and niece, Carolyn Williams (John), of New Bern, N.C. The family will have an open house in honor of Minnie on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at 5934 Chester Street, Wilmington, NC.
