Daisy Oliver

CHICKAMAUGA — Daisy Aileen Phillips Oliver, 97, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018. She was born in Walker County to the late Herman and Irene McAlister Pitman on Dec. 13, 1920. She attended school at Chattanooga Valley and was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga Valley community. She had unwavering faith in God and was a member of Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church. For decades Aileen was a Sunday School teacher, choir member and was very active in all aspects of her church and community. She sang in a trio for many years and she was also a member of the Chattanooga Valley Community Choir. After she became home bound, she hosted a Bible study in her home monthly for the High Point community. Music was a very important to Aileen and she was an inspiration to many over the years. Aileen worked as a florist for many years, a para pro in the school system for several years and also worked at Cutter Laboratory. She had a love for flowers and was proud of having over one hundred varieties of lilies. Many times, people would stop on the road to see her beautiful flowers in her yard. She was a loving person and gave of her time to several people over the years by taking care of them during their declining years until their death. She had many tragedies in her life, but never wavered in her faith in God to see her through. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Grover Phillips, Chester Oliver; sons, Floyd Phillips, James (Jimmy) Phillips; great-grandson, Heath Phillips. She is survived by her sons, John Phillips, of Flintstone, Ga., Donald Oliver, of Kensington, Ga.; daughter, Barbara Oliver Autry, of High Point, Ga.; brother, Herman Pitman Jr., of Flintstone, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Monday morning prior to the service. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, in the chapel with Pastor: Terry Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Lookout Cemetery.
