Mable North

ROGERSVILLE — Mable Louise Buckner North, 91, passed away on April 19, 2019, at the Serenity House in Morristown. She was born on Aug. 28, 1927, in Chattanooga to Willie and Nancy Long Buckner. She was preceded in death by Paul L. North, her husband of 59 years; and granddaughter, Melissa “Missy” Cherie North. Family that also preceded her in death include brothers and sisters, Howard (Margie) Buckner, Reuben (Vicky) Buckner, Vivian Buckner, and Pauline (Larry) Fisher; father and mother-in-law John and Annis North; brothers and sisters-in-law Alfred (Dovie) North, John (Catherine) North, David North, Doris (Gordon) Tatum, and Freda North. She was a 1945 graduate of Central High School in Chattanooga. She and Paul moved their family to Rogersville in 1962. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Rogersville for many years and especially enjoyed her friends in the Mary Gray Sunday School class. After her son, John, became the pastor of Spires Chapel Baptist Church, she and Paul joined that congregation. She will be remembered by others as the “Fried Pie Lady,” making as many as 1,400 pies at a time for Heritage Days. By her family she will be remembered as a mother who prayed without ceasing for each and every one of her children and grandchildren to have a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. She is survived by her children, Diana (Don) Shellabarger, of Newnan, Ga., Sandy (Bill) Trent, John (Vickie) North, Paula (Jim) Bowman, Marsha (Ronnie) Mallory, and Barry (Susie) North of Rogersville, and “adopted” son, Paul Head of Texas; her grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Freeman, Robert (Tara) Shellabarger, Cyndi (Mark) Snapp, Susan (Shannon) Chase, Josh (Rebecca) Trent, Julia (Jay) Taylor, Brian (Kim Greer) Bowman, Michael (Ale) Bowman, Stephen (Alyssa) Bowman, Jordan (Stephanie) Mallory, Leah (Noah) Smith, John Wesley North, Scott Caldwell, and Travis North; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother Cecil (Teresa) Buckner of High Point, Ga.; brother-in-law, James “Jim” North, formerly of Chattanooga, and sister-in-law Annette North, of Flintstone, Ga.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at Serenity House for making their mother’s passing so peaceful and dignified, as well as Amedisys Hospice. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Spires Chapel Baptist Church and also at anytime at the home of Paula Bowman. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. John North officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and great-grandsons as honorary pallbearers. Music will be provided by her grandchildren. Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019, at McKinney Cemetery at 1 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.christiansells.com.
