Freddie Payne

RINGGOLD — Freddie Mitchell Payne, 86, of Ringgold, went home to be with the Lord Friday, August 9, 2019. Born October 28, 1932, he was a son of the late C.T. Payne and Edna Hatfield Payne. He was of the Methodist faith at Newnan Springs United Methodist Church. Freddie was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a talented mechanic, working on everything from cars to tractor-trailers. He was a resident of the North Georgia area for 60 years, where he used his mechanical talents at Payne Brothers’ Service Station and was the owner of Cloud Springs Complex. Freddie was preceded in death by his brothers W.C. Payne, Gordon Lee Payne, Felix Payne, and Larry Payne. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rebecca Payne, daughters Nancy (Marty) Cooper, Cathy (Ray) Darnell, and Diane Payne, brothers Pee Wee Payne, Perry Payne, and Bozo Payne, sister Joyce Morrison, grandchildren Zach (Janette) Darnell, Morgan (Brad) Cornwell, Brittne (Josh) McKinney, and Kevin (Liz) Cooper, great-grandchildren Gunnar Cornwell, Piper Cornwell, Remy Cornwell, Bodhi Cooper, Arizona Cooper, Desi Cooper, and arriving soon, Cooper McKinney. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jim Elder officiating. Interment will be 12:30 PM Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Newnan Springs United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends 4-8 PM Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
