Doris Mantooth

Doris Fann Mantooth passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at Alexian Village in Chattanooga. She was born on December 13, 1927 in Chattanooga, TN to Andrew and Ethel Fann. She was the middle of 3 siblings and attended high school in Bradley County. She married Wallace Mantooth at 17 and they remained married for 72 years. She worked at Erlanger Hospital in the Admitting office, followed by TVA until retiring. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She and her husband Wallace enjoyed hosting large groups of people at their farm in Higdon, AL, especially the First Friends International Student Ministry from their church. She and Wallace went on several trips with their church to visit missionaries in many countries around the world. She and Wallace also frequented the Mountain Opry on Friday nights, enjoying live bluegrass. She was preceded in death by her beloved Wallace, her parents, and her son Mike. She is survived by her daughters Janet (John) Russell of Flintstone, GA and daughter LuAnne (Mark) Kessel of Chattanooga, and daughter-in-law Cindi Mantooth of Sherman, TX, grandchildren: Becky (Rob) Sides, Brett (Erin) Ellis, Maxx Mantooth, Macy (Paul) Chamberlain, Ellen (John) Cafaro and Wilson Kessel, and great grandchildren: Madison and Austin Sides, Emily and Bailey Ellis and Nathanael, Michael, and Grace Chamberlain, and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 554 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 12pm. The family will receive friends at 11am preceding the service in the Connector at First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to World Missions at First Presbyterian Church, Bible in the Schools, or Changed Lives. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Alexian Village, as well as her many friends whose visits she cherished.
