Beverly Mikesell

Beverly Hartshorn Mikesell, passed away on October 28, 2018. She was born June 9, 1948 in Philadelphia. She grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Tucker High School in 1966. She moved to Chattanooga in 1969 after graduating from Virginia Intermont College and was chosen as Miss Chattanooga later that year. In 1970 Bev met and later married Robert Mikesell. After corporate stops in New York City, San Francisco (where both sons were born) and Boston, they moved to Atlanta in 1979 where they lived until her death on October 28, 2018. Bev had many worldly successes and accomplishments but they were secondary to what mattered most…..and can be summed up in one sentence. She knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and everything else revolved around that commitment to living for Him. Bev will be remembered as a great mom (and mother-in-law) to her sons and their wives….and as an awesome “Mumsy” to her 5 grands, always finding an occasion to celebrate and engage them. To her husband she was a beautiful and loving wife for 48 years, a true helpmate, co-laborer for Christ, business partner and best friend in life. To her friends and family she is remembered as someone who laughed and loved life, enjoyed having meaningful conversations that went below the surface and made a caring difference in peoples lives. Her faith was strong and never wavered as she courageously fought cancer for her last 3 years while trusting God all the while that He could use her illness to His Glory. He did that in some amazing ways. Her witness for Jesus was soft and gentle, but always uncompromising. Her witness for the Lord was never more powerful than how she faced death with complete confidence that the God she knew throughout her life continued to hold her firmly in His hands as she ended life on Earth and began her eternal life in Heaven. Bev is survived by her husband, her son Rob Mikesell and his wife Stacy and grands Emily and Allie as well as son Ryan Mikesell and his wife Stephanie and grands Wyatt, Willow and Wynn. Also her parents William and Gloria Hartshorn of Signal Mountain, Brother David Hartshorn in Alexandria and sister Sandy Bricken in Atlanta. Her passing leaves a major hole in all our lives. Although she will be deeply missed, we are filled with memories of so many happy times together. For her many family members and friends who share her faith in Christ, we know that Bev is not gone, just gone ahead, and what a wonderful way that is to remember her.
