Helen Massey
ROSSVILLE — Helen Sanland Massey, 95, passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020, in a
local health care facility.
Helen was born and raised in the Chattanooga area and graduated from Central High School and attended South Rossville Baptist Church. She worked for Peerless Woolen
Mills, Kindred Hospital, and then retired after 15 years as a manager with North Georgia
Community Action. Helen enjoyed ceramics, reading romance and mystery novels, watching NASCAR’s Bill and Chase Elliott, and spending time with her dog, “Chico Baby.” She will always be remembered as an intelligent and caring woman and will be
missed.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Massey; parents, W.T. and Maggie
Sanland; sister, Willie Bell Pruett; and brother, Howard L. Sanland.
Survivors include her daughters: Jayne (John) Romans of LaFayette, GA and Barbara Dean of Rossville, GA; grandchildren: David E. Lees, Jr. of Tiftonia, GA, Maryann
(Robert) Carver of Rossville, GA, John Scott Romans, Lisa (Bill) Rector, and Rebecca (Nathan) Vass; eight great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 11:30 a.m. in the South
Crest Chapel. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
