No officers were injured and a police dog suffered only minor injuries after apprehending a burglary suspect Friday morning in Chattanooga, according to a news release.

Charles Reed, 42, is facing charges including, but not limited to, burglary and cruelty to animals, the release said, after police were called to 1304 Joiner Road on a residential hold-up alarm at 10 a.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, an officer saw the suspect inside the residence, and the suspect refused orders from officers.

The police dog, Duco, was deployed in the flooded cellar area of the house where the suspect was. Duco detained Reed, the release said, by biting his leg, and Reed hit the dog several times. Officers then detained Reed.

"He's now recovered & tails ah wagin," the Chattanooga police department tweeted about the health status of Duco.

Reed was taken to the hospital for treatment and transported for questioning, the release said.

Chattanooga police ask anyone with information of the incident to call 423-698-2525. The investigation is ongoing.
