Kendra L. TweedA Tennessee mother is facing murder charges 11 months after her boyfriend was taken into custody following the deaths of the woman's two infant daughters last year.
Kendra L. Tweed, 22, of Greeneville was indicted Monday on two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated child endangerment and two counts of aggravated child neglect, multiple media outlets report. Tweed's boyfriend, Erick E. Jones Jr., was indicted in September on four counts of first-degree murder in the infants' December deaths.
Greeneville police Detective Kenni Carter has told prosecutors that autopsy results indicated that 13-month-old Kynsleigh Easterly and 2-month-old Trinity Jones died of blunt force trauma and other injuries.
Police say Erick Jones was looking after the children at the time of their death.
District Attorney General Dan Armstrong said earlier this month that, although Jones was charged with murder in the girls' deaths shortly after they occurred, Tweed was never ruled out as a suspect.
"There was never a point when charges against her were not under consideration. It just took a little longer to look at all that happened and develop the evidence," Armstrong said. "She was always a person of interest in regards to the children's death."
Armstrong said Tweed raised her daughters in a home where drugs were being used and sold.
Jones, who remains held in the Greene County Detention Center on $700,000 bond, is scheduled to go on trial in September 2016.
It is unclear whether either has an attorney.
