Man arrested after robbing convenience store dressed in women's clothing

KNOXVILLE -- Knoxville police have arrested a man they say robbed a Sutherland Avenue convenience store with a shotgun late Sunday while dressed in women's pink clothing.

Sammy Samuel Dobbins Jr., 41, of Knoxville, demanded cash from a clerk at about 10:44 p.m., police said.

An employee at the store identified Dobbins based on his voice and distinctive gait. Officer Kevin Varner, who was aware of the suspect and had previous interactions with him, set up surveillance with other officers outside a residence Dobbins frequents.
